There was pandemonium in Mararaba Pushit of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers killed two vigilantes while attempting to escape after the abduction of a businessman in the area
Saturday Tribune learnt that the kidnappers forced their way into the businessman’s house at Mararaba Pushit at about 7:00 am and abducted the man at gunpoint in the presence of his family members.
It was gathered that the gunshots by the kidnappers attracted people within the vicinity who alerted vigilantes in the community who swung into action immediately but got to the scene when the kidnappers were leaving.
A source within the locality who did not want his name in print said the vigilantes and others went after the kidnappers, adding that in the gun duel that ensued two of the vigilantes identified as Simon Bakshak and Ibrahim Iliya were killed and three others injured.
“Two young men named Simon Bakshak and Ibrahim Eliya of Mararaba Pushit of Mangu
local government the home town of the Plateau State Deputy Governor Professor Sonny Tyoden were killed by kidnappers beside a church.
“The kidnappers abducted the businessman at about 7:00 am on Friday but while they were trying to escape with the victim, they opened fire on the vigilantes on their trail and killed two of them. Three others sustained injuries,” said the source.
When contacted the State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Gabriel Ogaba simply declared “Let me confirm from the Division concerned, I will get back to you.”
