Gunmen have reportedly killed three people and the ward head of Mabel community of Butura in Bokkos Local Council of Plateau State. The Guardian learnt that the gunmen invaded the community and opened fire, which resulted in the death of four persons, while others were injured and property destroyed.
A former Councillor of Butura Ward in Bokkos, Hon. Josiah Mahwash, who confirmed the attack said it happened on Tuesday, November 8 by 9:45p.m.

A resident, Rafan Dafang James, told newsmen that the gunmen invaded the community and started shooting indiscriminately, while others scampered to safety.

It was gathered that the gunmen attacked the community through the hills and took the residents by surprise. Another resident of the community said the attackers also killed a woman, her son, and one man.

According to him, the victims were shot at close range. He said: “The attack came to us as a surprise, considering the efforts being put in place by both the government and security agencies to arrest perpetrators in the council.

“Both the council and security agencies have to revisit the peace accord recently signed by the natives and herders in the area. Attacks on innocent people have become a daily occurrence. We are therefore appealing to all the authorities concerned to come to our aid.”

At press time, the Military Information Officer (MIO), Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Capt. Oya James, was yet to pick calls put across to him.
